Slow down, relax and experience the beauty of San Juan Island
Most people that visit the San Juan Islands come for the natural beauty. To soak in the clean air, clean water, slower pace and just refresh their souls.
San Juan Island is known for orca whale watching, sea kayaking, hiking, biking, mopeding, its rich history, museums, a vineyard, a lavender farm, an alpaca farm, farmers market and many fine restaurants. These are just a few reasons to come and stay.
Things to do in town
The town of Friday Harbor is extremely walkable, most amenities are within a 4-block by 4-block radius.
Boutiques and shops abound in Friday Harbor, operated by their owners and staffed with their friends. Many talented artists reside on this island whose works can be purchased in these shops.
For entertainment, we have both a community theater presenting plays and musical events and a movie theater.
And, yes, dining! Friday Harbor and San Juan Island have a number of excellent dining establishments. Check our list for good eats on the island.
Adventures around the island
Bike or Moped. You can see the entire island by moped â€“ rent one in Friday Harbor to begin your adventure.
Whether on bike or moped, be aware that the roads are winding and have blind corners. Many roads are gravel, which is not a problem as long as you stay alert.
Dive. Speaking of diving, Jacques Cousteau said the the San Juan Islands were one of his favorite cold water diving locations. A dive shop is located in Friday Harbor.
