Marine Naturalist

Growing up in a small town in South Dakota, Rebecca spent her time in the forests either mountain biking, hiking, cross-country skiing, or tracking neat animals. This fascination for the natural world led her to start a biology degree at Black Hills State University where she had the opportunity to do summer internships in Northern Minnesota on black bears and in Tenerife, Spain, on short-finned pilot whales.

She then transferred to the University of Hawaii at Hilo to finish out her undergrad degree in marine science, where her passion for whales has been reinforced; she has even discovered an obsession for sea cucumbers. Her love for the ocean continues to grow with every new creature she finds, and she plans to put this adoration to work to help save the oceans.
