San Juan Outfitters is located at both Roche Harbor and Friday Harbor on San Juan Island. Our exclusive facilities at these harbors allow guests safe and easy access to the water, whether you are San Juan Island sea kayaking or San Juan Island whale watching. Experienced paddlers, novices, and families alike will enjoy our sea kayaking tours, with a wide variety of tours and services available. Whale Watch guests will appreciate the small group feel of our vessel, with both your captain and naturalist answering your questions one-on-one.
Tours depart daily from both Roche Harbor and Friday Harbor from mid April through early October. Whether sea kayaking, whale watching, or both, our guests typically see Orca (Killer) Whales, Porpoise, Harbor Seals, Sea Lions, Bald Eagles, and a wide range of Marine Birds and land mammals. For those primarily interested in seeing Orca (Killer) Whales, we suggest our whale watch tours by motor vessel. While our kayak tours do see Killer Whales with some frequency, your best chances are by boat where our speed and range are much greater. Our San Juan Islands kayak tours are a “wildlife tour by kayak”, and any Killer Whale encounters are an added bonus to the diverse wildlife we typically see.
