Two Humpbacks and Bigg's Killer Whales North of San Juan Island | 8/29/18 | 2:00

Piper | August 29, 2018 | M/V Sea Hawk | 2:00 PM

This afternoon Captain Sarah, our lovely guests, and I boarded the M/V Sea Hawk in Roche Harbor and made our way into Spieden Channel and west toward a report of two humpbacks close-by. Not even 10 minutes later we were slowing our engine as we approached the scene. The humpbacks had been on a six-minute dive and we were searching in the distance to see where they’d appear when *KOOSH, KOOSH* the two behemoths surfaced...

Jordan | August 30, 2018 | M/V Sea Hawk | 2:00 trip

Today was such a great day out on the water as Captain Erick and I set out of Roche Harbor and headed north to reports of whales in Canadian waters. Picturesque clouds painted the horizon as they billowed up and created even more beauty all around us.

We first we headed towards Spieden Island and we checked out some harbor seals on a small rocky outcrop. These floppy little fellows were enjoying their time on land as...

Today was such fantastic day out on the water! The skies were a beautiful blue and the sun was shining as we left Roche Harbor. Captain Pete and I headed north towards Spieden Island.

Here we found some harbor seals lounging on the shoreline! There were a bunch of them taking advantage of the sunshine. There was even one seal in the water flopping around in the nearby kelp forest. He squirmed around until he flopped on...

Today was a great day out on the water! The sun finally shone brightly in the sky after many days of cloudy and smoky haze. We left out of Roche Harbor as Captain Gabe and I took to the sea to find our whales. We headed south out of Mosquito Pass and down the south side of San Juan Island through the Haro Strait.

As we were searching for wildlife, we suddenly saw a blow off in the distance! We...

Jordan | August 26, 2018 | M/V Sea Hawk | 2:00 trip

Today was a fantastic day out on the water! Captain Sarah and I headed out of Roche Harbor really excited to see whales and other amazing life, when all of a sudden, we found whales!

We hadn’t even reached open waters when we spotted dorsal fins just a few feet away! Coming into harbor, these young transient whales were searching for seals among the boats. We identified these individuals as just two whales: T65A3 and...

Jordan | August 23, 2018 | M/V Sea Hawk | 2:00 trip

Today was lovely as blue skies peaked through the clouds. Captain Sarah and I headed out of Roche Harbor towards reports of whales up in Canada!

As we reached the west side of Spieden Island we spotted a harbor seal in the water eating a salmon! It was so fun to watch him fling the fish around, trying to tear it apart to eat as seagulls swooped into the area trying to take advantage of free food!

Then we traveled further...

[Sarah M | 08/15/2018 | M/V Seahawk | 02:00pm]

Yesterday the M/V Seahawk had another great trip in the Salish Sea. Even though we are still experiencing smoky conditions, the wildlife sightings have been off the charts amazing and unaffected by the atmospheric conditions.

On our 02:00pm afternoon trip we left Roche Harbor and headed southwest through Mosquito Pass towards Sidney Island. As we reached the south end of Sidney Island, near Hughes Pass we found a family of killer whales known as the...

Jordan | August 13, 2018 | M/V Sea Hawk | 2:00 trip

What a lovely day out on the water! The surrounding area seemed even more mystical and beautiful as a hazy fog surrounded us and blocked out the mountains on the horizon. A bright red sun shone through the clouds and made everything glow a fiery orange colour.

Luckily the water was really calm as we trekked through the islands towards the promise of wildlife. Captain Erick and I headed out of Roche Harbor and traveled...
