Friday Harbor Kayak Tours
Kayak Tours From Friday Harbor on San Juan Island | 3-hours
$99 per person
Friday Harbor Kayak Tour is a great trip for returning guests who have been on our 3-hour kayak tour from Roche Harbor and would like to try something different. The location, close to the Friday Harbor ferry landing, works perfectly for ferry walk-on passengers.
Our exclusive location from Friday Harbor allows guests to easily access some of the best paddling in the San Juan Islands. It doesn’t take long to exit the Friday Harbor Marina and leave the town behind, as you make your way along the east side of San Juan Island.
Kayak tour routes are ‘tide dependent’. So depending on how the tides are the day and time of day you kayak with us, tides will determine which route your kayak guide takes. Both route options are equally as scenic and fun.
Headed north, the kayak tour travels along the east side of San Juan Island. The land just outside Friday harbor is owned by the University of Washington Marine Laboratories, (locally called “The Labs”). This acreage is one of the largest undeveloped shorelines in all of San Juan County.
Headed south, the kayak tour travels past Brown Island toward Turn Island State Park. This park is part of the National Wildlife Refuges. Turn Island State Park also provides an opportunity to stretch your legs and enjoy the views before continuing back towards Friday Harbor in a big loop.
From this turn-around point, guests get views of San Juan Channel, the Olympic Mountains, Lopez Island and more.
There is a variety of wildlife to be seen such as harbor seals, all types of sea birds including the king fisher.
The king fishers seem to prefer this part of the island and can be seen sitting on sail boat masts in-be-tween diving for fish.
At low tide there are multicolored sea stars and tide pool creatures. Bald eagles can be viewed soaring over head a good deal of the time. The best part of this tour, as our other day kayak tours is no experience needed!
