Humpback Whales Feeding in the Strait of Georgia

Feeding Humpback Whales Found in the Strait of Georgia!

Laura | M/V Sea Lion | 6/19/2020 | 12:00pm

What a gorgeous day to be out on the water!  The seas were glass calm and we were surrounded by sunshine and picturesque mountain views throughout our trip!  Mount Baker and the Cascades seemed especially vivid today.  Captain Pete and I headed north with 13 excited passengers on board through the San Juan Channel and into Boundary Pass.  We stopped along Flattop Island for some cute harbor seal viewing.  They were also enjoying...

Humpback Whale "Anvil" Flukes through the Strait of Georgia!

Laura C. | M/V Sea Hawk | 8/13/2019 | 2:00pm

M/V Sea Hawk traveled all the way past Alden Bank and into the Straight of Georgia today!  We had beautiful seas and bright sunny skies along the way.  It was one of my favorite days for whale spotting today.  We had reports of a humpback whale in the area taking long dives but without other vessels to rely on, it was up to the crew aboard Sea Hawk to put their whale finding skills to use!

Colorful Killer Whales in the Strait of Georgia

Olivia | July 29th, 2019 | M/V Sea Hawk | 2:00pm

Captain Erick and I started off our trip with the best group we could have asked for on board. We had 7 passengers who were incredibly humble and excited to be on the water with this gorgeous sunny day. We had a reported Orca sighting that had started off down by Lopez Island earlier that morning, the T65A’s (minus T65A2), that were now just south of Saturna Island heading north towards East Point and into the Strait of Georgia. We knew right away...

Stitch the Humpback Swims in the Strait of Georgia!

Piper | Saturday, June 1, 2019 | M/V Sea Hawk | 12:00 PM

Happy June! Today was a bright and sunny day in the Salish Sea as we begin to really come into our summer season. We left the docks in Roche Harbor and pointed north past Spieden Island and into the narrow waters of John’s Pass which twists between Stuart Island and John’s Island. The small curvy channel opens into Boundary Pass which holds the border between the US and Canada! We motored across that border while...

Breaching Whales and Bonuses, Tuesday May 19, 2015

I saw the first splash from a quarter mile away; a great backwards leap that sent water twenty feet in the air. Hoping for some repetition I crossed my fingers as we motored closer to the scene, deep in the middle of the Strait of Georgia. We'd finally made it to J Pod.

Many people don't realize why whales breach. Be they Killer Whales or Humpbacks, breach we may not know the meaning of every individual action, but we do know these are social displays meant to send a message. J Pod was clearly...
